Addition of Alumina to Nanoporous Calcium Titanium Phosphate Glass-Ceramics and its Effects on Crystallization Behavior
Authors
Abstract:
Microporous Calcium Titanium Phosphate glass-ceramics have many uses in high-tech industries. For example, they have applications in catalysts industry. In this study, different molar percentages of alumina were added to a glass with P2O5 30, CaO 45, TiO2 25 (mol%) composition. The samples were melted at 1350°C and crystallization heat treatment was performed on the glasses after cooling to make glass-ceramics. The Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) was used to determine nucleation and crystallization temperature. The DTA curve of the sample had 4 molar% and alumina had the sharpest crystallization peak. The CP and CTP phases were the most crystalline phases in all samples. The soluble CP phase disappeared and the porous structure of the CPT crystals remained through the acid washing of the samples. The results showed that the addition of alumina decreased the crystallization temperature, time and temperature of crystallization, and also increased the average size of porosities (from 12 to 16 nm).

Determination of the Nucleation and Crystallization Parameters for Making Nanoporous Titanium Phosphate Glass-ceramics
Nanoporous glass-ceramics were prepared with composition 45CaO-25TiO2-35P2O5 (mol%). Two molar percent of Na2O was added as a flux to the composition. With the aforementioned composition, glass melted and crystallized into glass-ceramics containing β-Ca3(PO4)2 and CaTi4(PO4)6 as the main phases. The differential thermal analysis (DTA) was conducted to determine the suitable temperatures f...

Abstract:Some types of glass and glass ceramics have a great potential for making bone tissue engineering scaffolds, drug carrier and bone cements as they can bond to host bone, stimulate bone cells toward osteogenesis, and resorb at the same time as the bone is repaired. Calcium phosphate glass ceramics have very attractive properties that allow them to use in bone tissue engineering. Calcium ...

Calcium phosphate based glasses with different concentrations of TiO2 (0 to 2.5 mol%) were prepared and their corresponding glass-ceramics were obtained by controlled heat treatments. The amorphous nature of glasses and the presence of crystalline phases in glass-ceramics were studied through XRD studies. Density, molar volume, ultrasonic velocities, attenuation, elastic constants and microhard...

BaO -SiO2-Al2O3 glass ceramics containing K2O and B2O3 were prepared using conventional melting of powered batches, quenching in water and crystallization of sintered glass. XRD patterns introducehexacelsian and celsian as two major crystallized phases in sintered glass-ceramics. Presence of K2O enhances crystallization of hexacelsianin comparison withB2O3.Observations showed sintering temperat...

Transparent glasses in a system of Li2O-MgO-SiO2-Al2O3-Fchemical constituents were prepared by melt quenching method. In the fabrication of nanocrystal glass-ceramics, controlled nucleation and subsequent crystal growth were necessary to avoid loss of transparency. It was therefore important to understand thermal properties and crystallization kinetic...
